what makes a good crankbait?

You must always judge a Crankbait by the sum of all it's parts. The paint job is only one aspect of a quality Crank. You must first have a reliable and durable blank/body to work with. The paint job is 2nd and (finally) the durability of the clear coat.

For example- a $15 Lucky Craft Crankbait has excellent color's and a great blank/body- but (generally) has a poor top-coat allowing the paint to scratch off after only 2-4 Bass, (or 1-2 PIKE!).

So, it isn't the paint that makes a good Crankbait,  but the sum of all it's parts. What do you think????

John is so right on the paint job. I love tossing cranks here in MN but after a few fish they look a bit battered especially after a few slough sharks attack them. Nothing worse then paying big bucks for a lure and have them looking all scratched up after one trip. That's why I'm a big fan of Swamp Zombie cranks....worth the money and the color selection, not to mention the ones I came up with, is great
