what makes a good crankbait?

You must always judge a Crankbait by the sum of all it's parts. The paint job is only one aspect of a quality Crank. You must first have a reliable and durable blank/body to work with. The paint job is 2nd and (finally) the durability of the clear coat.

For example- a $15 Lucky Craft Crankbait has excellent color's and a great blank/body- but (generally) has a poor top-coat allowing the paint to scratch off after only 2-4 Bass, (or 1-2 PIKE!).

So, it isn't the paint that makes a good Crankbait,  but the sum of all it's parts. What do you think????

How much do you make per lure??

I don't make a lot of money on these lures. It typically takes me 1 - 2 hours (and up to 4 hours for custom Musky/Pike or Saltwater sized lures) to paint a lure and (at the very least) a 12 hour period to allow the 2 ton epoxy to dry properly. Adding in my overhead- time involved, the cost of paint, 3D eyes and epoxy resin- my average profit is around $5-$7- (LESS for a more expensive/time consuming lure)! Nobody is getting rich painting lures in the USA. Everyone I've met or spoken with who paints lures does it for the passion of creating something a fish has never seen.

It truly IS a labor of love.

why did you revamp the website?

I've been getting question's about why I took the original site down.

The old site had only 3 pages- a home page, a lure page and a selling/Pay Pal page. This updated site has a blog, a pictures page and is (generally) much bigger than the original site. I felt it was important you get to know me and my family. After all, we are doing business together.

Salt or freshwater???

People ask me which type of fishing I prefer. I must admit, "Brackish" water fishing, (in my opinion) is the best. Why?? Simple,  you can move upstream and catch Largemouth Bass, Stumpknocker's and Crappie OR move downstream (toward saltier water) and catch Redfish, Speckled Trout, Stripers, Flounder, Snook ETC. It is the best of both worlds! What do YOU think??????

why buy a custom lure?

Me and the Wife having a cocktail in St. Augustine, Florida!
I get this question a lot- "Why would I buy a custom lure for $15-$25??? I can do just fine with a $3 -$5 lure!"

Well, why would a person buy a hand-tailored suit? Why would a person buy an expensive car? Why would a person go out to dinner at a $18-$25 a plate restaurant??

The answer: Because you want something modified to YOUR specifications that fits your concepts and imagination. You want something "special". You want something very few people have. You want something you know is durable and well-made. I don't contest that "stock" lures catch fish. I just know I can make you a lure no fish has ever seen. And,  if that puts 1-2 BIGGER fish in your live-well, (fish you may not have otherwise caught) I've done my job !

WHAT is your opinion??????

Here in Mn, we typically have 4 months of perfect weather,(and 8 months of not so great weather). To celebrate my youngest daughter's birth I made a boat garden in our front yard out of an old boat my Brother Inlaw had lying around. It has a variety of Lily's including Asiatic and Hybrid. Mn has excellent weather for gardening- for 4 months! (lol)

where did the swamp zombie name come from?

The AMC Walking Dead TV program had become a "must see" for our family. Although my youngest daughter didn't get to see the WHOLE program in it's entirety, (it's a little too graphic), it was she that stumbled upon the name. Over family dinner I announced I was struggling to find an original name and she said,"Daddy, your like a swamp zombie cause you like to fish all the time and be in the water." We all stared at each other and I said,"That's a great name"!

Viola! The Swamp Zombie Brand was born!
